Taylor Tillage, named after my mothers side of the family. Tillage has been the last name on my mothers side for countless generations. A few years ago I signed up for ancestry.com and I discovered the name Tillage dates back to the 1400's. My great great grandparents were french indian which is where the name Tillage originated. I take pride in being a Tillage and carrying on the family name for more generations to come.
Taylor on the other hand, is completley random and last minute. LaQuata, also franch-indian, was a name the women in my family passed down for seven generations. Most of the woman in my family, including my Mother, Mammaw and Great Mammaw all had the first name LaQuata. My mom was encouraged to pass the name down to me, but very hesitant on her part. She always said growing up people looked at her funny with that name and could never pronounce it correctly, quite frankly she hated it and didn't want me to have such a terrible name myself. Therefore, last minute, right after i popped out, she looked at me and exclaimed "Taylor!". Although random and meaningless I prefer Taylor over LaQuata any day!
I don't mind my first or last name, but my nickname is the worst! It's worse than LaQuata, "Tater-Tot". My parents could never give me an exact story of where the nickname tater-tot originated. I assumed I loved tater-tots as a child, but my Dad always said I just looked like a cute little tater-tot and I actually never had a tater-tot til I was older in my teens. Once again no meaning what so ever and it's a name that has stuck with me forever. Even my boss and coaches call me Tater, which I hate!
Your last name is interesting and I think that it's cool that it's passed down through your mother's side. Why is it that you have your mother's last name and not your fathers? I don't have either parents' last names, so that's a confusing predicament itself. It's definitely relatable.
ReplyDeleteDid your mom ever explain how she came up with Taylor? What I mean is, when you "popped out", what made her call you some random name?
As for your nickname, maybe you had tater tots at a friend's house and your parents weren't aware. I only got to try new foods when I would stay at my friends' houses. My mom is a bit Plain Jane, so she doesn't really try a variety of different things. Also, why does your boss and coaches call you Tater?
